So, I still haven’t found a job here in JC yet. I’m going to a few staffing/temp agencies this week and hopefully something will come up from that. Additionally in talking to my dad, he has reminded me that I should go ahead and start looking for a job post-graduation. Of course as far that goes it would help if I had a better idea of where I want to live after school. I’ve toyed with the idea of England for many months now and while that would be incredible and would be a great experience I’m worried about how to find a good job over there. Plus the move would be difficult.

On the dating scene, I had a date today. It was short, just for coffee but it was really nice. It’s the first really good date I’ve had since my divorce. This is definitely a step in the right direction. I think we’re going to go out another day this week and I also have a date with another guy on Saturday. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen more than one person at a time so it will be interesting to see how this goes.

Father’s day is this Sunday and after stressing out what to get my dad for the occassion I’ve decided to treat my family to a day at the movies. My dad loves going to the movies but hates paying and generally doesn’t have time. So today, I’m getting tickets from Fandango for us to enjoy. I’d like to get him something a little nicer but being low on funds from the aforementioned lack of job is putting a halt on extravagant gifts.

I would like to extend my own personal birthday wishes to the one, the only and the INCREDIBLY sexy Johnny Depp. The gorgeous creature who has starred in the Pirates of the Carribbean movies, From Hell, Benny and Joon, Don Juan DeMarco, Edward Scissorhands, etc. turns 45 today. May he live many more years and never age a day.

Due the ridiculous temperatures we’ve been experiencing in fair East Tennessee this past week I have needed to cool off desperately. Today the Ex and I headed out to The Blue Hole a natural swimming hole formed by multiple waterfalls flowing out from Mill Creek. The Blue Hole is completely surrounded by trees and rhododendrons and so the water is always very cold. It’s my guess that the water was about 50 degrees or so and in the current 97 degree heat we’ve been experiencing it was so wonderfully cold. Here are a couple of pictures from the trip. The first two images are from the second fall, the last image is the actual Blue Hole. My battery died early on so I’ll try to make it back out there maybe this week but next week for sure. This weekend was the annual Blue Plum Festival here JC. It’s a celebration of arts and music most notably bluegrass music. In order to attract a younger crowd they’ve had all the bars on main street set up to sell draft beer for $2-3 a pop.

I went with my friend Alan and we ran into some of my other friends. Unfortunately due to the ridiculous heat we’ve been experienceing lately It was close to 95 degrees after the sun went down because people were so tightly packed in. Despite that I think things like this are what I’m going to miss the msot about moving away from this area. I know that there are festivals everywhere but how many places put on bluegrass and old-timey country shows on?

This summer since it will be my last here I’m trying to embrace some of our local/regional activities. Tomorrow I’m heading to my favorite swimming place The Blue Hole. I hope to have some great pictures of the trip.

I’ve mentioned a couple of times here recently that I’m interested in possibly being a travel writer. I love to travel and I love to visit new places. Going along with that I’m going to list my top 5 U.S. destinations that I want to see.

5. Redwood National and State Parks - Along the coast of northern California the RNSP are home to the remaining 45 percent of all remaining Coastal Redwood old-growth forests. They are home to the tallest trees in the world. The parks have hiking, camping, biking and horseback riding. Additionally for the geek in me this is also where the scenes of Endor from Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi were filmed.

4. Maine - I want to go to Maine to visit all the lighthouses. I think lighthouses are fascinating. Knowing that there sole purpose is to guide ship’s safely into port. Something about it seems very romantic and wistful. I think I could fill my memory card on my digital camera up in 20 minutes just taking pictures of lighthouses.

3. Miami, Fla - I have never been to South Florida. I’ve never been further south than Tampa. I think just once it would be a blast to party in city like Miami. Plus there is the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts which is the 2nd largest performing arts center in the U.S. And ever the sports aficionado I would have multiple professional sports teams to choose from.

2. Vail, Co - I have never been skiing and that being and I’d probably break my leg while trying but that being said I would love to go to Vail to ski. Vail Mountain has 5,289 skiable acres, 33 lifts and, 193 marked trails on three faces. It has been one of the top-ranked ski resorts in the last couple of years. Additionally in the spring and summer they hold free summer concerts and many outdoor festivals. And like any good resort they have also added some incredible spas in the area.

1. San Antonio, Texas - The seventh largest city in the U.S. San Antonio is widely regarded as the cultural gateway into the American Southwest. Being of Mexican heritage San Antonio appeals to me for very obvious reasons. It is the one place in America I could get a true feel for the culture that I come from. San Antonio has become widely famous for its River Walk and the Alamo as well as the aforementioned Tejano culture. Additionally to the River Walk San Antonio also has a Sea World, an NBA team, Botanical gardens and the San Antonio Missions National Park.

So there you have it the top 5 places in the US I want to visit. For those of you who are more well traveled than I am, please share your thoughts on my list if you’ve been to any of these places or feel free to share with me your most desired travel destinations.

 - I’ve been trying to figure out what to do post college. I’ve narrowed it down to working in a PR/marketing firm, travel writer and wedding planner.

 - Having a bad back really sucks. I hurt myself mowing the lawn for my parents on Sunday and now I’m in severe pain.

 - I think my kitten hurt her leg when she jumped off the fridge. I have yet to figure out what she was doing up there. If she is still limping in the morning we’re heading to the vet.

 - It is impossible to watch ‘Grease’ without singing along.

 - I just realized how stupid my clothes look right now. I’m wearing men’s boxers and a negligee top. I clearly have issues.

 - As soon as my back is better I’m starting back at the gym. I want to

 - I need to call maintenance tomorrow to fix my heat pump. I have a gigantic puddle of water on my carpet that gets worse everytime I turn the A/C on.

 - As I was cruising down I-26 yesterday some guy in a Firebird started waving and smiling at me. It really kind of brightened my day. It didn’t hurt that he was pretty cute.

 - As Grease is coming to an end on HBO I now have the sudden urge to go to a carnival. I’ve never been to one.

 - I want to host my own blog. I already have a domain name. Anyone want to help me with a design and getting it moved over?

So I’m going to fix it. There have got to be some changes in my life. I’ve got to start being pro-active and stop waiting for things to happen to me. I’ve been in a big funk for about 2 weeks now and it has to end.

Right now a quick evaluation of my life says that I’m 25, divorced, unemployed and in graduate school.

A deeper look tells me that right now single is good. I never thought I would meet someone living in East Tennessee and when it happened I was surprised. Now that it hasn’t worked out I’m starting to believe again that my happily ever after is somewhere other than here. The fact that I’m 25 is good. I’m young, I have plenty of time to figure out what I want to do with my life. The unemployed part hasn’t been great but I did need a bit of a break after working for ETSU for the alst three years. Being in grad school isn’t great either but on the positive side I only have one more semester left until I graduate.

I think some of the events in my life over the last two weeks have served as a wake-up call telling me that I’ve got to get my act together if I want to have a meaningful life. So starting today no more feeling sorry for myself, no more backpeddling and no more wishing things would change. I’m going to make them change, I’m going to have the life I deserve. It WILL happen.
