I Heart Guinness

May 29, 2008

I had Guinness for the first time several years ago. I thought it was good but I didn’t understand why everyone made such a big deal about it.

In recent years I’ve gained a great appreciation for beer. More recently I’ve gained a great appreciation for Guinness. I’ve never had anything quite like it.

Last night I went to a bar in Asheville, NC called Jack of the Wood with a friend of mine. I drank 5 pints as we played darts, bullshitted and listened to an old time band pick over in the corner of the bar. Every night this place has live music ranging from Irish/Celtic music to cover bands. I definitely think I will be going back soon.

From the Guinness website

Six Degrees of Preparation

GUINNESS® Draught is best served at 6°C (that’s 42.8°F), with the legendary two-part pour. First, tilt the glass to 45 degrees and carefully pour until three quarters full. Then place the glass on the bar counter and leave to settle. Once the surge has settled, fill the glass to the brim. It takes about 119.5 seconds to pour the perfect pint. But don’t fret. It’s worth the wait.

  1. Good for you hon. ‘Bout time you had a little fun!

  2. I am absolutely drooling over that picture! My personal record for drinking Guinness is 11 pints! I went to see a rugby final at Twickenham (SW London) and we drank Guinness all day – oh boy that was some hangover!

  3. MMmmm, there’s nothing as sexy as a woman that appreciates Guinness.
